Mozart's 250th

The year 2006 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). While some band music publishers and band directors seemed reluctant to "tamper" with Mozart by transcribing his music for band, most have come to realize that the Wunderkind from Salzburg is unsurpassed in the utilization of wind instruments in his music. During his short life Mozart wrote many works for groups of 3 to 13 wind instruments, as well as concertos for solo wind instruments.
Below is a selected list of transcriptions for concert band from publishers in Germany of some of Mozart's works.

.
OVERTURE to the opera "Titus" -
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/ arr. Gustav Lotterer -Gr3- $92
This lesser known overture features the wind section in the orginal and has been well adapted for concert band.

MARCH from "Figaro" - W. A. Mozart / Loritz - Gr4 - $50
Cherubino's march from Act I. Recorded on CD "Moment Musical."

MINUET from Symphony No. 39 in Eb K.V. 543 - W. A. Mozart / Loritz - Gr4 - $46
True to the original, this transcription features unchanged the superb clarinet duet in the Trio. Recorded on "Demo CD No. 1"

MINUET - 4th movt. from Serenade in Eb, K.V. 375 back-to-back with MARCH No. 3, K.V. 408 - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart / arr.Harald Kolasch - Gr4 - $53
Two movements from works Mozart originally wrote for wind ensembles. Contains nice Alberti bass parts for 2nd and 3rd Clarinets.

"EIN MUSIKALISCHER SPASS" - "A Musical Joke"
– K.V. 522 - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/ arr. Wilfried Kornmeier – Gr4 — $28
Originally for string quarter and 2 horns, this arrangement of movements 1, 2, and 4 is scored for a sextet of 2 Flutes or 2 Clarinets, 2 Horns, and 2 Baritones or 2 Bassoons. In this piece containing intentional wrong notes (!), Mozart was poking fun at Village Musicians, who sometimes (unintentionally) played a few sour notes.
